Super Bowl Champ speaks at PIANY’s Long Island RAP, plus networking and CE

May 9, 2023

The nearly 300 insurance professionals who attended PIANY’s Long Island RAP on April 27, 2023, at the Crest Hollow Country Club, in Woodbury, N.Y., were able to network, learn and discuss the issues affecting the insurance industry, and earn continuing-education credits on technology, and errors and omissions.

Two-time Super Bowl champ

During the event—which corresponded with NFL Draft Day—keynote speaker two-time Super Bowl champ Carl Banks, former linebacker for the New York Giants, discussed the value of ongoing efforts to motivate and strengthen employees.

Using his own life as an example, he explained how Bill Parcels, his coach at the time, would talk to players and find out what motivated them. Then, Parcels would use the information he unearthed during these chats to encourage each player during practice or on game day.

Salient CE

The daylong event offered access to two education sessions taught by thought leader John Fear, CPIA, CISR. Fear has worked in the independent agency profession for more than 20 years in a variety of roles and business areas. He works with companies, associations and individual agencies in the areas of agency operations, process improvement and sales proficiency to provide outstanding service for their clients.

In the morning session, Fear taught Technology–Impacting You and Your Clients, which helped participants learn how technology is changing the way insurance professionals do business. This class helped insurance professionals to understand how technology impacts their ability to provide proper risk assessment for their clients, and effectively integrate those processes and procedures—through their staff—into their client interactions.

In the afternoon session—Errors & Omissions–Avoiding Coverage Gaps—Fear helped conference goers learn how to avoid common mistakes that can result in coverage gaps. Those in attendance examined the most common exposures and how a systematic process can help agents respond to possible gaps in coverage changes and minimize their agency’s E&O exposure. Fear also discussed some of the most effective methods in both uncovering these issues, as well as how to position solutions to meet the clients’ needs.

Networking galore

The New York Young Insurance Professionals kicked off the event early when it hosted its Pre-LI RAP Happy Hour, at the Hurricane Grill & Wings, Syosset, the night before Long Island RAP.

The event also featured an expansive trade show, NY-YIP Ice Cream Social, and various networking opportunities.
