PIA New York honors Gruner with Community Service award

ALBANY, N.Y.—Daniel J. Gruner received the Community Service award at the Professional Insurance Agents of New York board of directors meeting on Feb. 9, 2022. He is senior advisor for NFP.

The PIANY Community Service award recognizes individuals who demonstrate a significant commitment to the improvement of his or her community.

An active member of his community, Gruner is a tireless volunteer. He has served on numerous local boards including the Kingston Boys and Girls Club; the ARC of Dutchess County and the Benedictine Health Foundation. In partnership with the Gruner Family, the Benedictine Health Foundation established the Rosemary D. Gruner Memorial Cancer Fund in 2004 to aid in the treatment, care and support of cancer patients in need. Gruner’s work with the Benedictine Health Foundation led to the creation of Bike for Cancer Care. Along with his family and community support, this event has raised over $1,500,000, for families in Ulster County who are going through cancer treatment. The goal is to help with the uncovered and additional expenses families encounter when dealing with a cancer diagnosis and treatment.

“Dan has demonstrated a deep level of dedication to his community. He has earned the respect and trust of his neighbors, colleagues and clients,” said Tim Dean, CIC, CRC, president of PIANY. “PIANY is proud to present him with this award.”
