PIANY encourages consideration for customers affected by government shutdown

GLENMONT, N.Y.—The Professional Insurance Agents of New York State is actively encouraging insurance carriers and industry partners to work with customers who are affected by the ongoing government shutdown. As the partial U.S. government shutdown enters its 25th day, thousands of federal workers are without paychecks and unable to meet their financial obligations, including paying insurance policy premiums.

Some carriers already are working with customers—something PIANY would like to see industry-wide.

“Workers affected by the shutdown should not run the risk of losing their insurance coverage,” said PIANY President Jamie Ferris, CIC, AAI, CPIA. “I strongly encourage our carriers and industry partners to find ways to work with customers who are temporarily unable to pay premiums because they aren’t receiving a paycheck. As agents, we care about our customers and want to see them protected.”
