PIANJ representatives meet with DOBI

Representatives of your association traveled to the halls of the Department of Banking and Insurance in Trenton on Oct. 4, 2023, to discuss PIANJ’s legislative and regulatory priorities, as well as advocate for independent insurance producers across the Garden State.

The PIANJ met with the newly appointed Acting Commissioner Justin Zimmerman, Trish Wallace, chief of staff to the acting commissioner, and Bill Rader, senior advisor to the acting commissioner.

The PIANJ delegation included: PIANJ President Connie Mahoney; PIANJ Vice President Andrew Harris Jr., CIC, AAI; PIANJ Vice Chairperson Tim Latimer; PIANJ Business Issues Chairman Christopher J. Powell; PIANJ Legislative lobbyists Carol Katz and Adam Guziejewski; PIANJ Director of Government & Industry Affairs Bradford J. Lachut, Esq.; PIANJ Government & Industry Affairs Specialist Theophilus “Theo” Alexander.

Discussions concentrated on PIANJ’s legislative and regulatory priorities, which include: step-down provision legislation, producer comparative negligence, consumer notification related to rate increases, emerging underwriting practices, and market availability in the Garden State’s coastal marketplace.

The discussions were fruitful and engaging. Plans for a follow-up meeting are already in the works.

Prior to joining PIA, Theo had served in both houses of the New York State Legislature. Previously, he worked as a legislative analyst for Hon. New York State Sen. Samra G. Brouk, D-55, and he served at the New York State Assembly, as a policy analyst with New York Assembly Program & Counsel. Theo received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics from Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y.
