PIACT representatives meet with CID

On Oct. 11, 2023, representatives of PIACT were invited by the Connecticut Insurance Department to participate in a virtual roundtable to discuss the health of Connecticut’s property/casualty marketplace, and to advocate for independent insurance producers across the Nutmeg State.

The PIACT met with George Bradner, assistant deputy commissioner & property and casualty director, Kristin Fabian, Insurance principal examiner, Nicholas Gill, principal examiner, Property-Casualty Unit, Ronald Main, insurance principal examiner, Michael Malesta, counsel, and Gerard O’Sullivan, assistant deputy commissioner for Consumer Affairs Division.

The PIACT delegation included: PIACT President J. Kyle Dougherty, CIC; PIA National Director Jon Black, LUTCF, CPIA, CLTC, NAMSA, NSSA; Past Presidents Joseph Bishop, Peter Frascarelli, CPIA, Timothy Russell, CPCU; Director Jeffrey Krar; PIACT Legislative Lobbyist Jim O’Brien, PIACT Director of Government & Industry Affairs Bradford J. Lachut, Esq., Director, Industry Resource Center Shirley Albright, CPIA, CISR; and Government & Industry Affairs Specialist Theophilus “Theo” Alexander.

The conversation focused on a variety of topics including: the reinsurance market, improper carrier nonrenewal and cancellations, emerging underwriting practices, carrier rate filings, the expansion of the excess-and-surplus lines market, and market availability in Connecticut’s coastal marketplace.

Brouk, D-55, and he served at the New York State Assembly, as a policy analyst with New York Assembly Program & Counsel. Theo received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics from Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y.
